The Priority of Love

Because God is love, the most important lesson He wants you to learn is how to love. It is not an easy task, though, as it runs counter to our self-centered nature.

Love should be your top priority, primary objective, and greatest ambition. It’s not enough to say, “one of the things I want is to be loving.” Relationships must have priority in your life above everything else. Why?

Because life without love is really worthless. Really.

Often we talk about finding time for our children, or making time for our spouses. It’s as if relationships are just part of our to-do list. But God says relationships are what life is all about.

Four of the Ten Commandments deal with our relationship with God, while the rest deal with our relationship with others. Later, Jesus summarized it into two statements: love God above all else and love people as you love yourself. That’s how important relationships are to God.

Relationships, not achievements or acquisition of things, are what matters most in life.

Busyness is the greatest enemy of relationships. How many times have you said to a loved one that you don’t have time for him/her because you are busy? We become preoccupied with making a living, doing our job, buying things, and accomplishing goals as if these are the point of life.

During the final moments of our earthly lives, we will all realize that relationships are what life is all about. Wisdom is learning this truth sooner than later. Don’t wait until you’re on your deathbed to figure out that nothing matters more.
