The Two Sides of Contentment
It is easy to fall into confusion when you talk about contentment. Others tell us to be content with what we have right now and live simply, while others tell us not to be content where we are now and expand our horizons.
In searching for an answer, here is what I found: Clearly, there are two sides to contentment!
Yes it’s true… simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. A simple and focused life is more powerful, more impactful. We should be content with what we have now and make the best of everything.
And it’s also true… we have to see the abundance life can offer! We have to fly like eagles and not discount our true potentials! We should not be content where we are now and aim for excellence in whatever we do!
Both are true and not confusing! You see… Mr. Francis Kong, one of the best inspirational speakers in the Philippines , told it this way: “Excellent people are completely content with what they have now, but they are never satisfied by what they can become.”
It’s that simple.
Contentment isn’t a matter with being content with your situation in life and never trying to improve it. It’s a matter of being content with what you have – but realizing that we will always have to improve and get better, and eventually be excellent in whatever it is we are doing.
If we stop improving, then we have given up on life.
So be content with what you have. Enjoy the simple things life can offer. Prioritize. Be focused and simple. But don’t forget to look out of the box, beyond your borders, to the full life that God intended you to have all for His magnificent glory.
That’s what an excellent godly person is all about.
