A Gentle Spirit

“And the servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient.” – 2 Timothy 2:24

Christians are oftentimes misunderstood.

Some people even make fun of us, especially when we share about God’s Word and what God is doing in our lives.

Others simply reject anything we say about the Lord. They think we are out of our minds or we’re too obsessed about religion.

The best way to handle these situations is to have a gentle spirit.

NEVER ARGUE

We should never try to “out-argue” someone when it comes to our faith. The truth of God is within us, and we should never be intimidated or frustrated by those who do not accept it.

There were times when people may disagree with us. Sometimes someone may question our faith in Him.

In times like these it is never helpful to argue. We can never debate anyone into the kingdom of God.

ONLY GOD

Only God Himself can touch and convince the heart to accept His truth. We are only His messengers.

If our motivation for arguing comes from our desire to be right, or to be vindicated, or to gain the esteem of those listening, we are acting selfishly. God does not honor this. More importantly, it doesn't bring honor to God!

HONORING GOD

We bring honor to God not when we win a dispute in His name, but when we reflect a Christ-like character. When we demonstrate patience to those who mistreat us and misunderstand our motives.

Arguing will never win people to our view, but loving them as Christ does will win us many friends over time!
