Love On Top
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23
The indwelling Holy Spirit works to produce His fruit in us, and first on the list is love. In fact, the other eight qualities are really just descriptions of its expression.
One pastor named Donald Grey Barnhouse said: “Love is the key. Joy is love singing. Peace is love resting. Patience is love enduring. Kindness is love’s touch. Goodness is love’s character. Faithfulness is love’s habit. Gentleness is love’s self-forgetfulness. Self-control is love holding the reins.”
Whenever we demonstrate kindness, patience, or gentleness, we see the Lord’s love at work through us, especially when the other person has been unkind and doesn’t deserve such pleasant treatment.
Agape love is the reason we are able to care for someone—it’s God’s doing, not ours. Even the love we offer the Lord is not something we can produce in our own heart if not for His enablement.
Let’s continue to develop our character by receiving God’s love and giving it out to others as well. Friends, it’s all about love.
