The Simplicity of the First Christmas
Every year, advertisers push so many products into our faces, such as Christmas trees, Christmas hams, Christmas shoes, Christmas vacations, Christmas ding dongs, etc. etc.
It's like if you don't have these stuff, if you can't afford these stuff, then your Christmas is incomplete. It seemed like the word "Christmas" had degraded to become just an adjective used by businessmen to boost product sales.
Wrong Emphasis
Emphasis seemed to have passed on from "our loving Father God who gave His Son Jesus as a free gift for our salvation" to "Santa Claus as the giver of gifts for good behavior".
I’m not saying don’t buy gifts for your children or your loved ones. Or Santa Claus is evil.
That's why it's no surprise statistics show there are more suicides occurring at this time of the year. Especially for male wage earners, particularly dads, who provide for their families.
Why? Because feelings of inadequacy, envy, and jealousy are conjured as media bombards us with a wrong idea of the season.

It would be quite unfortunate if our kids would not feel the spirit of Christmas without having new toys, new shoes, or new clothes.
It would be sad if our children would equate Christmas more with Santa Claus and material things than with the real reason of the season.
I’m not saying don’t buy gifts for your children or your loved ones. Or Santa Claus is evil.
My point is let us teach our children the real reason why we celebrate Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus Christ, the giver of our salvation. Let's teach them why we needed saving and what is He saving us from.
Let's teach them right biblical perspective so they won't get distracted by the world's persuasions as they grow up and become adults.
The Simplicity of the First Christmas
Imagine the simplicity of the first Christmas. There was Joseph. He takes care of Mary. She just gave birth to baby Jesus. And they were staying in a manger.

There were no new toys, new clothes, or new shoes. There wasn’t even a decent room to begin with. How ironic the King of Kings and Lord of Lords was born in the humblest of manners!
It is okay to remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on the 25th of December, even if there is no biblical evidence that it falls on that exact date.

It is okay to give and receive gifts during this season, or to build a huge Christmas tree, or to party and gather with long lost relatives, friends, and loved ones.
But the most important thing should be not losing sight of the true meaning of Christmas. And pass it on to our children, so they can pass it on through the next generations.
It's okay to have a simple Christmas. Christ Jesus should be enough reason for us to celebrate.
