Why Being Grateful Makes Me Happy

There are days when I feel so overwhelmed that I find myself feeling anxious without any real reason. During these times, I go back to basics to try to overcome.

What do I do?

Sit still, be in the moment, and be grateful about who I'm with and what I have.

A Grateful Attitude

I don't do this every day, but whenever I did, it always left me feeling very happy.

Why should this simple habit make such a big difference in my life?

Here are some of the reasons:
  • Because I'm reminded of the people I love. My wife, my kids, my family, my friends and churchmates. It also reminds me I am loved back.
  • Because it brings everything back to the right perspective. Having a bad day at work? Gratefulness makes me thankful I have one. Having relationship issues? I'm thankful I can learn from these challenges and improve.
  • Because it focuses my attention to what's really important. It reminds me that everything I need to live is right here, right now. Air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat, clothes to wear. A roof over my head.
  • Because it humbles me and makes me realize I'm not in control, God is. Knowing God personally and realizing He is in control puts a tremendous amount of pressure off my shoulders. Yes, I'm still responsible with the life He had let me borrow, but knowing He is always in control makes me feel safe and secured.
What do I thank about during these gratitude sessions? My gratitude list varies every time, but those closest to my heart were always there.

I also thank God for you who takes time to read my blog posts. =) See you in the next one.
