Art was my first love as a creative child, but life took me away from it for three decades. Then, in March 2024, a friend's encouragement brought me back to something I didn't realize I had missed so much. Looking back, I'm grateful I listened.
Today, I'm on my fourth sketchbook, my second watercolor book, and I've painted on numerous canvases of different sizes. I've explored graphite, ink pen, markers, acrylic pens, watercolor, oil pastels, and acrylic paints. Along the way, I've created 500 artworks, and I'm still learning, experimenting, and discovering what I can do and what my unique style as an artist is.
But this milestone means more to me than a number. It reminds me that some passions never really leave us. Sometimes, they simply wait for us to find our way back to them. I feel fulfilled rediscovering a part of me that never truly disappeared. From the womb, I believe God made me to be an artist.
My ultimate dream is to create my very first oil painting, and I hope that moment comes soon. Beyond that, I have no grand plans or definite destination for this journey. I just want to keep making art for as long as God allows me to—through the years, into old age, and for as long as my hands and heart are willing.
I'm thankful to God for His grace, strength, good health, and the inspiration that keeps coming my way. I'm not celebrating mastery or perfection. I'm celebrating the courage it took to begin again, the joy of creating, and the unexpected happiness of finding my way back to my first love.
Thirty years away. Almost three years back. Five hundred artworks. And a heart that still wants to create. Here's to whatever comes next—one sketch, one painting, one day at a time. Cheers!
